Editorial and verification standards
Updated November 4, 2026
A financial explanation should show its source, date, assumptions and limits.
Editorial responsibility
The Moss Ladder Editorial & Research Team publishes the guides and calculation tools. Moss Ladder maintains the source register, version history and contact channels so readers can question an assumption or report an error.
Primary sources
Premiums and schedules come from CMS and SSA. SSA manuals and forms support administrative explanations. IRS publications and year-specific notices support tax discussions. Forum posts can reveal confusing questions, but personal experiences cannot establish eligibility, statutory amounts or deadlines.
- CMS 2025 Medicare premiums and deductibles (opens in a new tab) and CMS 2026 Medicare premiums and deductibles (opens in a new tab), including Part D income-related surcharges.
- SSA POMS HI 01101.020 sliding-scale tables (opens in a new tab), the surrounding IRMAA procedures and Form SSA-44 instructions (opens in a new tab).
- Social Security Act ยง1839(i) (opens in a new tab), relevant Internal Revenue Code provisions and IRS year-specific forms and publications.
Separate rates and estimates
Official packs are labeled by premium year and revision. Future speculation is not published as an official table. Tax-year limits, such as the QCD cap, are separate from the Medicare year in which income may be used.
Reproducible calculations
The financial engine uses integer cents and is independent from React. Tests cover exact boundaries, adjacent cents, coverage months, separate-return spouses and unknown plan premiums. The methodology documents the supported scope.
Research tools and verification limits
Software and AI tools assist research, drafting and implementation. Published figures are checked against primary federal sources and deterministic test cases; these checks are documented in the project record. They do not establish human professional review. No licensed reviewer or independent human sign-off is claimed. Any future review credit must identify the actual reviewer, scope and date.
Dates and corrections
Guide dates describe this content revision, not the date of every linked government publication. Rules and forms can change. New rates require verified datasets and regression checks. Report the page, statement, relevant year and official source through Contact and corrections. Do not send tax returns or identifying numbers. Material corrections should update related examples, tests and the project record. A downloaded draft has not been delivered.
Advertising and external links
Ads must be labeled and separate from controls. No payment determines the tables or editorial conclusions. External services have their own privacy policies. A source link does not guarantee its future availability or establish endorsement.
